What would be great anime with a really good plot?

i think you would like Shakugan No Shana. it fits all of your qualities. supernatural, great action, great plot, the main character starts off with no abilities and is treated as nothing, but discovers them later on to everyone's surprise, it was made in 2005, and in actuality the main character is in tandem with a female character that the anime is named for (blazing eye shana), oh and no mechas. its also a rather funny at times
