Why is trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol very soluble in water and cis-1,2-dimethoxycyclobutane is not?

trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol is very soluble in water, whereas cis-1,2-dimethoxycyclobutane is not. Explain why this difference is observed for these isomers please. THANKS!
