Is it possible to make a worthwhile Minecraft Server on my Laptop?

I plan to be playing and hosting at the same time for a few months, but I am getting a gaming PC in september and will just be using it for hosting from then onwards. So basically, do I wait for the PC or do I do it on the laptop now, will it blow up the laptop?
